The GCM Travel website is designed with features that allow the user to customize the information provided to match his or her interests. Currently you can customize the set of roads which are initially displayed on the traffic reports on this site. To do this, you use the MyTravel page.
When you click on the MyTravel item in the menubar, the customization options are displayed. Currently, the Default Locations option is displayed. The page is shown below. On this page you set your default locations for the traffic reports on the GCM Travel site.

The main sections and features of this page are as follows:
- Title - Indicates you are viewing the Default Locations page.
- Instructions - Describes how this page is operated.
- Available Locations List - List of all locations which are available to be selected as defaults. These include major roads in the corridor. The list also includes category level entries, such as "Illinois" and "Entire Corridor". These entries match all roads in Illinois or in the GCM Corridor, repsectively.
- List Controls - These arrows are used to move items from the Available list to the Default (or chosen) list. See below for details.
- Default Locations - This area displays a list of all the locations you have selected as your default locations.
It is not necessary to select default locations to use the GCM Travel site. If your default locations list is empty, when you view reports, initally no roads will be shown and you will need to select the roads you want to view at that time (each time you view a report). The default locations capability is intended as a convenience to you.
Default locations are stored for you using cookies. Cookies are a feature found in most browsers (but not all) which allow web sites to store information on your local computer and retrieve that information whenever you view pages from that site. Sites cannot view information in cookies stored by other web sites, nor can they store data on your system other than using the cookie feature in your browser. With these restrictions, many people see cookies as a safe and useful way for web sites to provide customization features like this one. Most browsers do allow users to disable the cookie feature. Some users have opted to disable cookies for various reasons. If you do not have cookies enabled, or your browser does not support cookies, then you will not be able to save default location information. This doesn't mean you will not be able to use the GCM Travel site, however. But you will need to select roads manually each time you view a report.
Below is a description of using the controls to make your default selections. In the first graphic below steps will be taken to select number of roads and those roads will be added to the defaults. In the second graphic, an item from the default locations list will be selected and removed from that list.

In item (1) various roads are selected by clicking on them. To select multiple roads, hold down the CTRL key (on PC) and the XXXX key (on Mac) before clicking. You can use the scrollbar to scroll the list, but be careful not to accidentally click within the list area itself while scrolling because that would change your selections. Once you have selected the set of roads you want to add to the defaults, click on object (2), the right-facing arrow. The browser should now refresh area (3) by adding in the items you had selected in area (1).
This feature does require JavaScript be available and enabled on your browser. If this is not the case, then you will not be able to select Default Locations.

If you have items in your defaults (3) that you do not want there, you can remove them. To do so, select them (similar to above) from the list (3). Then click on the left arrow from the controls (2). The brower will refresh with the selected items removed from the default locations (3).
If you want to clear out the default locations, you do not need to select anything from (3). Simply click on the double left arrows icon (at the bottom of the control area). The browser will refresh with the default locations (3) area empty. You can then use the steps above to add roads into your default locations.
Once the Default Locations list (3) is the way you like it, you can view other pages on this site or leave the site entirely. The defaults you have selected are already saved for you, there is no need to press a save button or perform any other action. When you view the reports pages during this visit to the site, or during any subsequent visit, your defaults will be in effect. Note that if you clear cookies from your browser then you will have to reestablish your default locations. Defaults are stored on a particular machine (and for some operating systems, a particular user). If you access the site from a different machine or as a different user on the same machine, you may not have the same set of cookies and might have to reselect any defaults.
